Steve Staum is considered the consummate textbook definition of a leader who understands the concept of hands- on front- line management. He wants to hear directly from the individuals in his care, and therefore walks the facility every single morning, listening and empathizing with the residents as well as the staff of Lakeland Health Care Center. He then painstakingly ensures that any issues or concerns are promptly addressed, whether they are environmental, clinical or emotional. Steve truly has his “finger on the pulse” of Lakeland and orchestrates a harmonious atmosphere that is comforting, soothing and positive.
Steve’s genuine warmth and compassion is evident in every interaction, and his infectious smile is contagious and sincere. He provides the perfect balance while managing his staff between meticulous oversight of protocol and systems, as well as unwavering encouragement and support. Family members rave about his first-hand knowledge of each resident and what is important to them.
Steve possesses a Master’s degree in social work from Wurzweiler, and utilizes his interpersonal skills and caring personality in his daily work. His open-door policy is appreciated, and he always is approachable and available to problem- solve, brainstorm and find solid solutions. He stresses the essential nature of every single employee, no matter what their job description and their assigned tasks.
Steve would do anything for the occupants of Lakeland and takes great pride in the wonderful accomplishments and successes that occur day in and day out throughout the Center.
Doreen Bryan is the Director of Nurses at Lakeland Healthcare Center. She has been a nurse for 26 years and has had a career as a Director of Nursing Services for 20 years. She immigrated to the United States of America in 1983 with an enthusiasm for helping people. She became a nurse because her grandmother was a nurse who talked about the profession with passion and respect. Doreen graduated from Felician University with a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration, and also holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She is a member of the ANA, the STTI honor society of nursing, and Sigma Beta Delta honor society in business. In her free time she loves to watch investigative movies and read mystery books.
I have been working in Recreation for over 10 years. Before that I worked in a group home for the DDD population. My first job as a Recreation Director was in a long-term care building with a certified dementia unit and had a sub-acute building as well. I really enjoy making connections and learning about who our residents are now as well as who they were in the past and what makes them happy.

I started off not knowing what I wanted to do in life, but in 2015 I started my senior year in high school interning for a company in food service for my senior project. It was here that I learned I loved working in food and nursing home environments.
After graduation, I started working as a dietary aide part time while in school at ITT Tech. I then began my journey as a (MIT) manager in training. It was at this time that I learned management styles as well as new cooking styles.
2016 I got my first opportunity to run my very own kitchen. 3 months later, I transferred to another building in Maryland and learned more ways of cooking and kitchen operations set ups from tray line to fine dinning and room to room services. After this, I knew this was the career I wanted to have.
I then joined University of Florida’s 150 hours CDM (Certified Dietary Manager) course and gained more knowledge.
Over the pass 6 years I’ve managed 7 buildings all with different styles of cooking and different characters.
Now I’m here to bring my talents to Lakeland Health Care Center and I couldn’t be happier.
